Distance Learning

Sequoia Family Learning is K-12 school based on the idea of a one-room school house.  Learning is achieved in small mixed-aged classrooms.  Like in a family, older children are often more capable than adults in helping younger children to learn.  The classrooms at Family Learning are project based and children succeed in a friendly environment.  Sequoia Choice Distance Learning also provides extended learning opportunities to Family Learning through an on site distance learning lab offering much of the required curriculum.  We combine the lab environment and real live learning projects with a performing arts aspect including hip hop dance, art, music classes, sports, and foreign language.

Students learn and grow in a school that feels like home.

What are the benefits of belonging to a mixed-aged classroom?  "Research by Vygotsky and other leading psychologists show that mixed-age grouping expands the heterogeneity of children in the same class, creating conditions that support a vision of more competent children spurring the development of their less advanced peers.  The play of younger children is more cognitivley and socially advanced; self esteem and attitudes toward school are more positive, and older children practice nurturing and help giving--important life skills."
